NEWPORT BEACH, CA – A man ultimately determined to be prominent sports agent, Leigh Steinberg, was arrested Wednesday night at approximately 7:30 p.m. after Newport Beach police received a report of a man screaming in the area of 445 East Coast Highway.
Upon arriving at the scene, police found a man lying on his back in the grass. The individual was also covered in dirt and grass.
Attempts by police to question the man were marred by the subject’s great difficulty in answering any questions, officials said.
According to Police, the man also displayed objective symptoms of alcohol intoxication and was deemed unable to care for himself, leading to his arrest.
It was later determined that the arrestee was Leigh Steinberg who listed his residence as being in Newport Beach and his occupation as sports agent.
Steinberg may be best known as the man whom the popular film and film character, Jerry Maguire, is based on. His reputation as a top sports agent is also backed by a history of working with elite athletes such as Steve Young, Troy Aikman, Lennox Lewis and Oscar de la Hoya. Additionally, Steinberg is well known for contributing to humanitarian causes.
Records show that Steinberg was also arrested for suspected DUI in Newport Beach in April, 2007, after he reportedly crashed his Mercedes into three parked cars and knocked over a fire hydrant.
