A 28-year-old man was killed on Sunday and another man injured after an apparent verbal dispute with another person in Encino at a house party resulted in a double shooting, authorities said.
The deceased man’s name was Guillermo Hernandez, who lived in Lake View Terrace with his mother and father, family members told KTLA.
“It’s the worst Mother’s Day for me,” said Hernandez’s mother Teresa Hernandez. “It’s a bad day for everybody in the family.”
Both men stood in front of a home around 4:20 a.m. in the 17000 block of Miranda Street when another person approached and a “verbal dispute” occurred, said Los Angeles Police Department Officer Mike Lopez.
The shooter fired five rounds at both men which killed one and injured the other, Lopez said.
The deceased man was pronounced dead at the scene, Lopez said.
Hernandez’s parents said their son was a caterer on movie sets who had a girlfriend and was not in a gang.
“He was a good kid, a good man, a handsome man,” Teresa Hernandez said.
Lopez said the other man, who is in his 60s, was transported to a local hospital and is in stable condition.
It was unclear if the crime was gang related, Lopez said.
