(02-25) 16:20 PST OAKLAND — Two men have been arrested and charged with special-circumstances murder in connection with the fatal shooting of a man outside a Walmart in East Oakland during a marijuana deal, authorities said Tuesday.

Vincent Muzak, 24, of Alameda was found shot to death in the parking lot of the store at 8400 Edgewater Dr. at 12:35 p.m. Dec. 22.

Police determined that Shawndale Boyd, 30, of Hayward and Damion Sleugh, 26, of Oakland had hatched a plan to rob Muzak of a “large quantity of marijuana,” Oakland police OfficerPhong Tran wrote in court documents.

After Muzak showed up in the parking lot, Boyd, who has a previous conviction for selling cocaine, directed him to Sleugh, who shot the victim before both men fled with the stolen pot, Tran wrote.

Police found a loaded, 12-gauge shotgun with a sawed-off barrel in Sleugh’s apartment, police said.

Sleugh was linked to the killing through phone records and text messages and by tracking the location of his phone in relation to cell towers, police said. He has prior convictions for grand theft and robbery.

Alameda County prosecutors have charged both men with murder and the special circumstance of murder in the course of a robbery. If convicted, they could face life in prison without the possibility of parole or the death penalty. Prosecutors will decide later whether to seek lethal injection.

Sleugh was also charged with two counts of being a felon in possession of a firearm. Both men are being held without bail at Santa Rita Jail in Dublin.
