HEMET, Calif. (AP) — Two teenagers convicted of sexually assaulting an elderly woman and pouring bleach down her throat when they broke into her Southern California home have been sentenced to 30 years in prison.

Riverside County prosecutors said 15-year-old Raymond Miranda and 16-year-old Ruben Melanson were sentenced as adults on Friday. They’ll be in juvenile custody until they turn 18 then transferred to state prison.

They pleaded guilty to breaking into the woman’s apartment in a gated senior living community in Hemet last year, attacked her and robbed her.
The 87-year-old victim now has to use a wheelchair and oxygen tank to help her breath as a result of the attack. KCBS-TV reports that at the sentencing, she told the boys that they did evil things and took away her independence.
