Driver, Passenger Flee Pickup Truck When Pursuit Comes to End in Reseda

One person is in custody Monday after two people fled a pickup truck during a pursuit in the San Fernando Valley.

The chase began about 4:53 a.m. when officers came in contact with two carjacking suspects at a Shell gas station on Moorpark Street in Van Nuys, Los Angeles Police Department Officer Madison said.

The suspected carjackers fled as officers approached the vehicle, which had been originally stolen in Oxnard, Madison said.

Sky 5 was over the pursuit about 5:20 a.m. as it continued into the Northridge area.

The driver appeared to speeding as he navigated through several neighborhoods, many times narrowly avoiding crashes while driving on the wrong side of the road.

About 5:30 a.m., the driver was traveling eastbound on Roscoe Boulevard near White Oak Avenue.

A short time later the truck came to a stop in the 6500 block of Vanalden Avenue in Reseda.

Two people were seen jumping out of the truck and running into the neighborhood.

One of the people in the stolen truck was taken into custody shortly after the pursuit, Madison said.

The second person was still outstanding, Madison said about 8:30 a.m.

There were initial reports that the two may have been armed, but it was unclear what type of weapon they may have had or if authorities had recovered any guns at the scene.
