Former Mayor Bob Filner added another ignoble notch to his year of infamy: America’s Worst Boss 2013.
The site that allows people to anonymously rate their supervisors put the boorish former city chief executive ahead of 49 other people from around the country who earned the dubious honor.
Filner made his way to the top from the array of sexual harassment and groping incidents that led to his resignation on Aug. 30 and has spawned nearly $4 million in claims against the city from women he allegedly wronged. He is currently serving three months house arrest after pleading guilty to two misdemeanor and one felony count stemming from his actions.
“Someone who has been accused multiple times by multiple employees of harassment and inappropriate behavior causing extreme embarrassment to his office, his employer and the citizens of San Diego and generated all these expenses is certainly someone who would be considered awful,” said Asher Adelman, founder of eBossWatch.
The 2013 list released Friday morning includes five restaurant managers, eight cops, two fire department bosses and a church bishop.
The site says this year’s compilation of workplace ogres has cost their employers more than $52 million in monetary damages and lawsuit settlement awards. The 33 bosses from the public sector on the list have cost taxpayers more than $21 million to date, according to eBossWatch.
All the managers on the list were accused of either workplace and sexual harassment, discrimination, retaliation and/or creating a hostile work environment.
The panel that drew up the rankings included Linnda (CQ) Durre, author of the “Surviving the Toxic Workplace,” and Kevin Kennemer (CQ), who writes “The Chief People Officer” blog and works consults companies on how to treat workers with respect.
This is the fifth year eBossWatch has compiled such a list.
