NEWTON, Iowa — A 33-year-old San Diego man who was arrested in Iowa is accused of luring a 14-year-old girl into his vehicle after posing as an actor in the “Twilight Saga” film series, authorities said.

David A. LaVera remained jailed Wednesday in Newton, Iowa, on counts of enticing a minor, carrying weapons and failing to have a valid driver’s license, a Jasper County jail spokesman said. His bail is $50,000 cash, the spokesman said.

Relatives of the girl, who lives in Baxter, Iowa, notified authorities about 1:30 p.m. Tuesday that she had been kidnapped by the suspect and was in his vehicle, according to a statement from the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office. Relatives and friends went after the driver, quickly found the vehicle and told the man to stop and let the girl out, which he did, the statement said. The driver fled and was stopped shortly afterward by Baxter police. It was determined the girl had willingly gotten into the vehicle, police said.

Deputies found two swords and five daggers in the vehicle, the statement said.

Baxter Police Chief Steve Wright told the Des Moines Register that LaVera had previously met the teen in Newton and had been communicating with her on Facebook.

LaVera’s Facebook page lists his profession as actor and musician. He is listed on Internet Movie Database as an actor and stuntman.

The Newton Daily News reported that LaVera had earlier gone to two public schools in Newton and signed some autographs as Kiowa Gordon, a 24-year-old actor from the “Twilight Saga” series.

LaVera is scheduled to appear in court Monday, the jail spokesman said.
