A Union City man was arrested and booked into Santa Clara County jail for homicide after his 24-year-old girlfriend died from injuries that he said he caused, according to police.

Milpitas police arrested Elijah Cruz Segura on April 23 after he called 911 at 2:29 a.m. and reported the victim’s injuries. Segura, 22, told police he was responsible for the injuries, police said.

The victim was not identified.

Police reported to the 1000 block of Hillview Court and found the woman lying on the ground with “significant injuries.” Police said they provided aid until fire department personnel and paramedics arrived to the scene.

The woman was taken to a local hospital, where she later died, police said.

Milpitas Lt. Tyler Jamison could not provide additional details about the incident or cause of death because the case was still under investigation Sunday afternoon.

The Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Office will announce formal charges against Segura on Monday afternoon, Jamison said.
