A couple was found shot to death at their Sugar Land home Monday morning in what police are investigating as a possible murder-suicide.
A disconnected 911 call led authorities to the 1200 block of Pendergrass in Telfair subdivision around 6 a.m., where they found 46-year-old Shanti Nakirekanti dead in the driveway, Sugar Land city spokesman Doug Adolph said.
The woman’s 16-year-old daughter told police that her father, Sreenivas Nakirekanti, 51, was in the bedroom and wouldn’t come out. It appears she didn’t know what happened and was asleep at the time, Adolph said.
Police then found the girl’s father in the bedroom, dead with what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Officers believe the deaths of Sreenivas and Shanti Nakirekanti may be a murder-suicide, Adolph said.
The daughter is in the care and custody of friends, said Adolph, who later said the child’s aunt would be arriving in Houston from out of state.
