A Missouri dad was shot and killed in front of his 10-year-old daughter when a parking lot gun sale turned violent, police said.
Jake Brantner was gunned down next to a busy Kansas City strip mall Sunday night as his little girl waited in the car, Kansas City Public Information Officer Darin Snapp told the Daily News.
“She watched the whole thing,” he said. “I can’t imagine what she is going though.”
The 39-year-old dad went to the parking lot to sell a handgun, Snapp said. Brantner set up the sale and arranged the meeting on an online bartering website.
Police have not released any information about the possible suspect, who fled after the shooting.
The parking lot was packed with cars of Kansas City Royals fans, who were attending the Sunday night baseball game at Kauffman Stadium next door.
Brantner was a loving dad who ran his own auto shop.
“He was a good guy,” neighbor Daniel Holdcroft told Fox 4 KC. “You couldn’t ask for a better neighbor. If you needed anything he was right there to help you.”
The neighborhood is rallying around the daughter Brantner left behind.
“Just shocking and I feel really bad for this little girl and her family,” Holdcroft said. “I think it will be with her the rest of her life. It’s going to be, she is going to be traumatized the rest of her life.”
