A 37-year-old Oakland pimp was sentenced to eight years in state prison and must register as a sex offender after pleading guilty to pandering in the sex trafficking of a 14-year-old girl, officials said Tuesday.
Joshua Johnson was arrested in March as part of an undercover police operation aimed at rescuing human trafficking victims along a notorious stretch of International Boulevard, according to Oakland police.
Investigators located a 14-year-old girl who said she was a human trafficking victim during the operation and they found text messages linking Johnson to the crime, police said.
Hours after rescuing the girl, who was not named because she is a victim of a sex crime and a minor, police arrested Johnson.
Prosecutors initially charged him with the human trafficking of a minor along with separate charges of pimping and pandering of a minor under 16. Johnson in December pleaded guilty to the pandering charge.
