OFF-DUTY DEPUTY HELPS SOLVE STRING OF BURGLARIES

HIGHLAND – A string of burglaries in Highland might have been solved when an off-duty sheriff’s deputy saw a San Bernardino man loading up his truck.
The San Bernardino County deputy, assigned in Victorville, who was driving in the 74000 block of San Benito Ave., and watched him loading appliances and other merchandize into the back of his truck, which was parked in the driveway of a vacant house.
The deputy reported the crime and watched the suspect, Thomas Burrows of San Bernardino, drive away. He was stopped on Greenspot Road and arrested after deputies verified the items in his truck had been stolen. Over $1,000 in stolen property was recovered.
There have been a string of burglaries in vacant homes around Highland dating back to June.
Burrows, 35, was booked into West Valley Detention Center in Rancho Cucamonga on suspicion of burglary.
Anyone with information or who suspects they may have been victimized in a burglary during June or July is asked to call the Highland sheriff’s station at (909) 425-9793.
