A woman’s screams alerted San Diego County Sheriff’s Deputies to a suspect in several alleged sexual assaults Tuesday in San Marcos.

Garth Clem, 37, is in custody, accused of multiple charges including assault with the intent to commit rape, false imprisonment, sexual battery, kidnapping and resisting arrest.

Deputies were performing a welfare check at the Prominence Apartments on S. Twin Oaks Valley Road around 8 p.m. when they say they heard a woman scream.

A witness directed deputies to a unit where a woman answered the door. Deputies say they determined the woman was a victim of a domestic-violence related assault.

Inside the unit, deputies and a sheriff’s K-9 took Clem into custody. Officials say Clem was treated at a local hospital for injuries.

Deputies say Clem was booked for sexual battery involving two additional victims, women who were also in the apartment at the time of his arrest.

Officials did not divulge details on the victims and their relationship to Clem.

The woman who answered the door was also treated at a nearby hospital. No word on the extent of her injuries.

Clem was booked into the Vista Detention Facility.
